Wisdom are the last set of molars to erupt in our mouths, and usually erupt between the ages of 17 and 25.   Our team at Fraser Family usually examines our patients between the ages of 16 and 19, to determine if we recommend wisdom tooth extraction.

If wisdom teeth are not removed overcrowding can occur, and this can jeopardize the existing teeth.  They can cause teeth to begin overlapping each other, and may move teeth out of place. It is important to remove them as soon as we see they either are erupting or causing an issue in the mouth.  Many people have small mouths, and this usually poses a problem with wisdom teeth if they do not have the proper room to erupt.

If you have been recommended for wisdom tooth extraction, the procedure is relatively simple.  The process takes approximately 45 minutes to remove the wisdom teeth, and local or general anesthesia is used in our office to keep our patients comfortable and pain free.

During the procedure we will remove the wisdom teeth, and may need to cut the gums around the area. If needed, stiches are used, and these will dissolve within a few days so there is no need to come back into the office to have them removed. We will provide gauze pads around the area to help with any fluid, but this should subside shortly after the procedure. Patients may have some pain or sensitivity after the procedure, but this will subside after a few days.

Having your wisdom teeth removed can help prevent future issues, and make sure your teeth do not move out of place. Our team at Fraser Family provides excellent care, making sure our patients feel comfortable and relaxed. Dr. Kashyap Vora has over 25 years of experience in the dental industry, and we strive to provide the very best care for our patients.

Many people often wonder when they need to get their wisdom teeth removed.

Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to erupt in our mouths, and usually erupt between the ages of 17 and 25. This varies for each person, and depends a lot on the size of their mouth. Wisdom teeth can cause issues if there is not enough room for them to come in.

There are signs you may need your wisdom teeth removed. Our team at Fraser Family will evaluate each patient’s teeth between the ages of 16 and 19, to determine if their wisdom teeth have begun to erupt, and if there are any issues. Depending on what we see, we may recommend our patients get them removed, so they do not cause any issues with the existing teeth. Removing wisdom teeth will prevent future issues as you age.

Reasons we recommend wisdom tooth extraction:

  • Teeth are too crowded in the mouth, and more room is needed to allow them to grow in appropriately.
  • Wisdom teeth are causing pain in and around the mouth or gums.
  • Wisdom teeth are impacted or stuck under the gums causing them to not erupt properly.
  • There is an infection present around the wisdom teeth.

There are signs or symptoms that are important to pay attention to.  At Fraser Family we will take x-rays of your teeth to determine if your wisdom teeth need extraction.  Our highly skilled team will discuss our recommendations, and explain all steps of the process. The procedure is approximately 45 minutes, and local or general anesthesia is used to keep our patients comfortable, relaxed, and pain free during the procedure.

Signs of symptoms you should watch for:

  • Swelling or stiffness in the jaw
  • Pain in the back of your jaw or mouth
  • Bad breath
  • Difficulty opening your mouth
  • Wisdom teeth rubbing against other teeth in the mouth

Problems can occur if wisdom teeth are not removed.  Overcrowding may happen causing teeth to overlap each other.  If you notice any signs or symptoms please call our office.  Our team will provide excellent care, and ensure your wisdom teeth are handled properly, to prevent any future issues.

Please call or email Fraser Family today to schedule your appointment, and ask about our wisdom teeth removal services.

If you are experiencing any pain or prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, you may have been told you need a root canal.  At Fraser Family we strive to work with our patients, and come up with a personalized treatment plan. We use the latest dental technology, and make sure our patients are comfortable and relaxed during any procedure.

Root canals are performed when the pulp or soft tissue in the tooth root becomes infected or inflamed. The infected pulp is removed, and the root is cleaned. The area is sealed and filled, and then a custom crown is placed over the tooth. Usually a temporary crown is placed over the tooth until the permanent crown is installed.

Root canals are a very common procedure, and usually take only one appointment. This also depends on the complexity of the root canal. If the tooth is infected, or there are other issues the procedure may take two or three appointments.

The procedure is quick and pain is minimal.  Most patients experience some pain for the first few days after the procedure, but normal activity can resume right away.

Our team will discuss caring for your root canal after the procedure.  We recommend good oral hygiene with brushing and flossing daily. Having a good at home care plan for your teeth will ensure your root canal stays healthy and lasts for years, or even a lifetime.

It is important to pay attention to any pain you are experiencing, and do not hesitate to call our office.  If the infected tooth is left untreated, an abscess can form and the bacteria can spread. The condition can be serious if not treated immediately.

Fraser Family Dental Clinic offers many procedures for our patients. One of the most common procedures is the root canal. If you are experiencing pain, tenderness around the tooth, or prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, then you should contact our office.

Root canals are required when the pulp inside the canal of the tooth becomes inflamed or infected. Most patients have symptoms prior to needing a root canal, but there are patients that do not experience any symptoms at all.  It is important to get regular dental checkups to avoid serious issues. If a root canal is left untreated, an abscess can form, and the infection could get worse. If you experience any symptoms, do not hesitate to call our office.

Root canals can be caused by tooth decay, injury to the tooth, or a crack in the tooth. They can last a lifetime if cared for properly, and have a success rate of over 95%. Our team ensures the root canal is filled and sealed. Once the procedure is complete, a custom crown is made, and the tooth is capped with a temporary crown. A follow up appointment is usually necessary to install the permanent crown.

Tips to make your root canal last:

  • Use good oral hygiene habits with regular brushing and flossing to keep the area surrounding the root canal healthy. If the seal becomes weak bacteria can enter the tooth, but this is uncommon.
  • Attend regular dental checkups to ensure the root canal looks healthy and stable.
  • Any pain should not be ignored after the root canal procedure. Contact our office right away if you experience any issues.

Recovery is minimal, and patients may have some pain, but this will go away after a few days. Root canals have a very high success rate if they are cared for properly at home.

Root canals are one of the most common dental procedures performed. At Fraser Family Dental Clinic, a root canal is recommended when the pulp or soft tissue inside the root canal is either inflamed or infected.  This inflammation is caused by bacteria, tooth decay, or even a crack or injury to the tooth.

Patients may experience symptoms alerting them that something is wrong. However, there are times when no symptoms are present, so it is important to schedule regular visits with our office. If left untreated, an abscess can form, and the infection and pain will get worse.

Root Canal Symptoms you should not ignore:

  • Tenderness while chewing food, or tenderness in the mouth or around the tooth.
  • Pain around the tooth or prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold.
  • Drainage or swelling around the tooth.
  • Tooth discoloration.
  • Bone or tissue feels tender to the touch.
  • Lymph nodes feel tender.

Once our team at Fraser Family has evaluated any concerns our patients have, we will discuss the recommended treatment options. During the root canal procedure, our skilled staff will remove any infected pulp and clean out the root canal. Once this is complete, the space is sealed and filled.

We use local anesthesia to minimize any pain or discomfort, and to keep our patients relaxed during the procedure. A crown is then custom made to fit over the tooth, and installed during a follow up appointment. In the interim, a temporary crown is placed over the tooth until the permanent crown is installed.

Recovery is minimal with some pain around the tooth or area for a few days after the procedure. Good oral hygiene with brushing and flossing daily is recommended, to ensure the root canal stays in good condition. Root canals can last for years, or even a lifetime with good oral hygiene.
